1. SEEKING TAX ATTORNEY
We’ve run into a dilemma with our post-retirement health plan or VEBA. Our lovely visit/compliance check with the IRS agent has turned into an examination mainly on the pre-tax contributions the employees contribute to the plan. We are looking for a tax attorney who is familiar with VEBA plans. If you have a recommendation, please forward to my attention.
Thanks

6. Trustees OK program promoting savings
October 23, 2007
OSWEGO -- Crafty and fiscally conscious village employees could snag up to a work week of paid vacation days if they compose a practical plan for the village to save money. On Monday, the Village Board approved the employee cost-saving suggestion program, the village's newest reward-based strategy to identify and eliminate excessive spending in Oswego. Under the program, those employees whose suggestions are implemented will receive paid days off, the number of which depends on the amount of money saved and or revenue generated that first year. The rewards range from one day of leave -- for a net first-year savings of $1,000 to $5,000 -- to five days of leave -- for a savings of $40,001 or more -- according to the resolution. Employees are mandated to use the days of leave within one year of receiving them, or they will be forfeited. When proposals are submitted to the village they will be reviewed for eligibility by human resources and then forwarded to the appropriate department for evaluation, the resolution stated. The final award determination will be made by the village's human resources staff. Their decision is based partly on the cost of adopting the proposal, the amount of effort involved in developing the idea, the completeness of the proposal and the degree that it will improve village operations and working conditions, among other things. Those employees interested in participating in the program must complete the village's employee suggestion form, which is available -- and must be submitted to -- the human resources department.
